“A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.”

At Spark Literacy Center, I believe in a structured literacy approach. Students need explicit, systematic reading instruction to become successful, lifelong readers!

Structured Literacy

Students need systematic instruction when learning to read. Different approaches and methodologies have sometimes left our students with gaps in their learning. At Spark Literacy Center, lessons will systematically focus on the five foundations of reading.

The Five Foundations of Reading

At Spark Literacy Center, the five foundations of reading are taught systematically, yet never in isolation. These critical literacy components work together during instruction to help readers succeed!

My daughter Anna has been utilizing Krissy’s services for exactly one year, and I am beyond satisfied and grateful for Anna’s progression in reading and writing. I am extremely happy with Spark Literacy. Anna's results and reading improvements are astonishing!
At the end of kindergarten, Anna’s teacher mentioned that Anna was struggling with reading and would benefit from additional support and gave me the name and number of a reading specialist we could utilize.
We tried the suggested reading specialist, but our schedules didn’t align. Anna needed early intervention, and I was unwilling to wait, so I started asking around to find a reading specialist that fit my daughter's needs and schedule.
I mentioned my needs to a neighbor who is a teacher in our district, and I was referred to Spark Literacy. I immediately emailed Krissy, and she promptly returned my email. Krissy informed me that she focuses on: "Structured Literacy. It benefits kids in two ways: 1. working on all necessary reading components simultaneously, and 2. pinpointing the gaps in learning and correcting those gaps while building upon them”. She also told me that she offers free consultations.
I moved forward, and Anna had her consultation. Krissy performed a reading evaluation, and Anna would indeed benefit from Spark Literacy's structured literacy program. Anna began her sessions twice weekly starting 7/25/22 and continued into the school's upcoming year, her 1st-grade academic year.
Within three weeks, I noticed a clear improvement in Anna’s reading abilities, engagement, and confidence! Anna LOVES her reading sessions. She is engaged, happy and has found confidence in reading! Before beginning with Krissy, Anna strongly disliked the learning process of reading, but Krissy changed that, and now, a year later, Anna is a confident reader and reading above her grade level.
Needless to say, I am extremely happy with Anna’s Spark Literacy experience and her reading improvement. The sky is the limit for Anna, and she now has the reading skills she needs to fly!
